Toitū te Waiora Workforce Development Council is now seeking expressions of interest from people interested in joining our Council. We would like to hear from passionate leaders who are keen to take a governance role in our mahi and join our experienced Council of professionals from across the Community, Health, Education, and Social Services sectors. Our workforce development council is industry-led, working with our sectors to make sure that the workforce in Aotearoa New Zealand is fit for today and the future. We aim to give industry greater leadership and influence across vocational education, ensuring that traditionally under-served learners have improved access and outcomes. It’s exciting mahi, making a real difference.

We are looking for candidates who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • are respected industry leaders who can think strategically about, and respond to, the needs of the sectors represented by Toitū te Waiora (See the home page of our website for a list of these sectors.)
  • have significant governance experience as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills, and a commitment to the kaupapa of the Workforce Development Councils
  • are of whakapapa Māori and can bring significant cultural competence and networks, including those with experience from within Māori employer or employee groups
  • can demonstrate support from industry associations, membership bodies, iwi and Māori authorities, or other relevant groups, and, or, have Union or employee group endorsement.

The commitment

A member may be appointed for a period of between one and three years.  They will be expected to attend up to 8 six-weekly Council meetings (either in person or online) and contribute to sub-committees as appropriate.

Who can apply?

Interested parties can apply directly or be nominated by either an employer or employee in the specified industries. We also encourage nominations by Māori employers in our industries.
