Proposed revision of Unit Standard 28517 Recognise and report changes and risks for a person in a health or wellbeing setting (level 2, 5 credits, version 4)

Following feedback from stakeholders Toitū te Waiora is proposing minor revisions to unit standard 28517 Recognise and report changes and risks for a person in a health or wellbeing setting (level 2, 5 credits, version 4).

Current version: Version 4 of this unit standard was published in May 2023 following a review in which ‘trapping’ was added to the range of performance criterion 3.2. Inclusion of trapping in this standard followed a formal request from the coroner. A definition for trapping was also added in Guidance Information.

Why change? Feedback from stakeholders has suggested that the definition of trapping in version 4 of the unit standard is narrow, and that performance criterion 3.1 should be amended to make trapping compulsory. Additionally, some providers found interpreting the range statement in performance criterion 3.2 difficult to approach.

Changes: There are three changes in the proposed revision (version 5), which can be found in the following documents:

  • Unit Standard 28517 tracked changes (v5)
  • Unit Standard 28517 clean (v5)
  • The definition of trapping in Guidance Information has been replaced by a broader definition.
  • The range statement for performance criterion 3.1 has been amended to make trapping compulsory.
  • The range statement for performance criterion 3.2 has been amended to remove trapping as a compulsory item; it remains as an optional item.
