New Micro-credential Approval: Health Coach Preparation (Level 4) April 10th, 2025 We are pleased to announce that NZQA has approved and listed the Health Coach Preparation (Level 4) micro-credential [Ref: 129155-1]. Developed by Toitū te Waiora, this micro-credential supports the development of a capable and confident health workforce, equipping learners with the foundational skills required to work as a Health Coach in primary and community care in Aotearoa New Zealand. Why was this micro-credential developed? This micro-credential was created in response to the introduction of the Health Coach role in primary and community health care. Health Coaches support tangata whaiora and whānau to improve hauora through holistic, relationship-based and culturally responsive approaches. It provides a targeted learning pathway for individuals who are: Entering the health and wellbeing workforce Supporting people to better manage their own hauora/wellbeing, access services and make sustainable lifestyle changes Looking to develop skills in motivational interviewing, health literacy, and whānau-centred care How was the micro-credential developed? Toitū te Waiora was approached by a provider and sector representatives to develop this micro-credential. The development process included consultation with providers, employers, and community representatives to ensure the learning outcomes align with the purpose of this micro-credential and the role as delivered in primary and community care. What’s next? The Health Coach Preparation micro-credential is now approved and listed. It is available for education providers to deliver.
