Lead Strategic Researcher

As the Lead Strategic Researcher for E Tū, I look after the Health Sector which includes the social services sector.  I work closely with the organisers working in that sector and was involved in interviewing Care and Support workers for their pay equity claim.  I undertook a survey of our members in the Care and Support sectors which forms part of our Transforming Care report that was released last year.  I am also part of the NZCTU Health Sector Policy Group that meets monthly to discuss issues happening within the sector.

I was the Co-Chair of the Canterbury Regional Skills Group for the whole time of their existence.  I bring my research skills and knowledge of the sector as well as the voices of our many union members involved in care and support in Residential Aged Care, Home Support, Community Organisations, Mental Health and Addiction, and the Disability Sector

What I would like to see come out of the National Industry Advisory Group is the creation of qualifications that meet the needs of both the employers and the workers that help move the sector to a well-paid, highly skilled sector that gains them the respect that they deserve for the work they do in our communities, with people with disabilities, our elderly and those that are struggling in today’s world.
