Early Childhood membership representative on the National Executive
NZEI Te Riu Roa

I have been working in the early childhood education sector since 2013. I have worked in a variety of services, including privately owned centres, Kōhanga Reo, and community-based services. Throughout my experience I have led teaching teams, acted as associate teacher for student teachers on practicum, and helped shape policy, philosophy, and strategic direction. I have been a campaigner for uplifting the early childhood education profession through advocacy, lobbying, and educating others working in the early childhood education field.

I bring my perspective from my years of teaching experience, as well as my connections to other teachers across the motu to hear from them and their communities on what learning and development needs they are facing. 

I want to see courses and papers that prepare students for the realities of the work, so they are confident and prepared to enter the sector. I want to see early childhood education valued for the contribution it makes to the functioning of society and the leaders of tomorrow that it can create and support.
