After reviewing feedback from industry, the decision has been made to keep the current grace period for refresher certification unchanged.

Refresher training for unit standards 6400, 6401, and 6402, should occur no later than two years and three months from the date of issue. Learners who do not complete refresher training within two years and three months from the date of issue will be required to re-take first aid training and assessment for the standard/s.
Toitū te Waiora acknowledges that learners have faced challenges in maintaining their certifications, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters that have made it difficult to attend training. As a result, it has been deemed necessary to maintain the grace period for refresher certification.
