Expiring New Zealand Certificate in Out of School Care (Level 4) [Ref: 2762] May 3rd, 2022 Following feedback from the April sector-wide survey, Toitū te Waiora is planning to expire this qualification. Nobody has undertaken this qualification since it was listed on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) in February 2016… Sector feedback has suggested that there is interest in a qualification, but the part-time nature of this industry presents barriers such as cost, time, flexibility, and a transient workforce. Also, feedback from some respondents was that there need to be incentives for staff such as support, funding, recognition from employers, and a pathway onto other qualifications in education. Smaller qualifications such as micro-credentials (5 – 40 credit qualifications) may be one way to upskill the workforce and certify the skill set and knowledge that out of school care workers have. Toitū te Waiora is here to listen to the needs of the sector, so if you are interested in having further discussions around qualifications, unit standards, micro-credentials or would like to discuss any workforce development opportunities for your sector, please contact: Lisa Hann Education and Youth Transformation Lead Phone: 022 0117461 Email: [email protected] Many thanks to everyone who took the time to complete our survey.
