Micro-credentials are units of learning designed to allow recognition of a discrete set of skills that meet specific learner, employer, industry, community, and iwi needs.
NZQA-approved micro-credentials:
Like qualifications, micro-credentials are listed on the NZQCF. When a learner has achieved a micro-credential, education organisations report their achievement to NZQA, so it is displayed on the learner’s New Zealand Record of Achievement.
To list a micro-credential on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF), you must apply to the relevant Workforce Development Council for a letter of support.
A micro-credential application is reviewed against the following criteria:
Support from Toitū Te Waiora does not guarantee that NZQA will list the micro-credential or that the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) will fund it.
Additionally, providers can submit applications to NZQA in situations where Toitū te Waiora has declined to support the proposed micro-credential.
NZQA recognised education providers can apply for accreditation to deliver an already listed micro-credential.
Support from Toitū Te Waiora can be made by emailing [email protected] with a brief outline of your accreditation application. Your history of delivery in the subject area will be reviewed, and an email response will be provided. This email response can be used as evidence of your consultation with Toitū Te Waiora prior to submitting the application for accreditation to NZQA.
