Toitū te Waiora has reviewed three asbestos removal standards following a request from WorkSafe, and is proposing the following changes:

29765   Remove non-friable asbestos (Level 4, 3 credits)

The proposed changes are:

  • Removal of reference to ‘The White Card (Australia)’ in the Prerequisites section.
  • Removal of reference to the Australian unit of competency CPCCDE3014A in Guidance Information.
  • Iterative changes to other Guidance Information text and references.

29766   Remove friable asbestos (Level 4, 4 credits)

The proposed changes are:

  • Removal of reference to ‘The White Card (Australia)’ in the Prerequisites section.
  • Removal of reference to the Australian unit of competency CPCCDE3015A in Guidance Information.
  • Iterative changes to other Guidance Information text and references.

29767   Supervise asbestos removal (Level 5, 2 credits)

The proposed changes are:

  • Revised wording removing specific reference to Class A and Class B supervisors in the Prerequisites section.
  • Removal of reference to the Australian unit of competency CPCCBC4051A in Guidance Information.
  • Iterative changes to other Guidance Information text and references.
  • Change to wording in Performance Criterion 2.8 to remove ‘ensure’, in that ensuring health monitoring is the responsibility of the Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (‘PCBU’), and not the Assessor.

In addition to the three asbestos removal standards reviewed by Toitū te Waiora, unit standard 2138 was reviewed at the same time by Waihanga Ara Rau.

2138 Demonstrate knowledge of asbestos and safety procedures (Level 2, 1 credit)

The proposed changes are:

  • Iterative changes to Guidance Information text and references.
  • Change to wording in Performance Criteria.

The proposed changes can be viewed here:

29765   Remove non-friable asbestos (Level 4, 3 credits) version 3 (tracked changes)

29766   Remove friable asbestos (Level 4, 4 credits) version 3 (tracked changes)

29767   Supervise asbestos removal (Level 5, 2 credits) version 3 (tracked changes)

2138      Demonstrate knowledge of asbestos and safety procedures (Level 2, 1 credits) version 6 (tracked changes)

The proposed changes to the three Toitū te Waiora unit standards will require an edit to the Consent and Moderation Requirements 0121 document. The proposed change is covered in Appendix 8:
