Proposed revision to unit standard 20826, Demonstrate knowledge of infection control requirements in a health or wellbeing setting (Level 2) (Version 6)

Proposed revision to unit standard 20826, Demonstrate knowledge of infection control requirements in a health or wellbeing setting (Level 2) (Version 6)

Toitū te Waiora is proposing a change to performance criterion 3.5 in unit standard 20826, Demonstrate knowledge of infection control requirements in a health or wellbeing setting (Level 2) (Version 6).

Toitū te Waiora is proposing a change to performance criterion 3.5 in unit standard 20826.

This is the existing wording in Version 6 of the unit standard:

3.5 First aid measures for contact exposure to blood or bodily fluids are identified.

Range measures include but are not limited to – blood spills, bodily fluid splashes, emergency treatments for accidents or incidents involving sharps.

Feedback from providers has pointed out that First Aid measures for blood spills or bodily fluids are difficult or impossible to assess. Toitū te Waiora is therefore proposing that wording in Performance criterion 3.5 is changed, and that a new performance criterion (3.6) is added to Version 7:

3.5 Measures for managing contact exposure to blood or bodily fluids are identified.

3.6 First Aid measures for incidents involving sharps are identified.

Toitū te Waiora is proposing that the last date of assessment for version 6 of this unit standard is set for 31 December 2024.

Toitū te Waiora will be accepting feedback about the proposed change until Friday 14 July 2023. Email us at [email protected]
