Smoking Cessation – Unit Standard Review > Skill Standard Development

Toitū te Waiora is reviewing four smoking cessation unit standards and developing new skill standards to better support Aotearoa, New Zealand’s health and wellbeing workforce.

The unit standards included are:

• US 27504: Describe tobacco use and dependence and evidence-based smoking cessation treatments (Level 3), (5 credits)
• US 27505: Assess a person for tobacco dependence and support a person to develop a stop smoking plan (Level 3), (6 credits)
• US 27506: Support a person to implement a stop smoking plan and provide ongoing support to assist them to remain smoke-free (Level 3), (6 credits)
• US 27507: Describe tobacco control and health promotion as ways of enhancing health through smoking cessation (Level 3), (5 credits)

Project focus:

This project aims to update the content to reflect current evidence-based practices, create clearer pathways for learners, and strengthen stop-smoking services throughout Aotearoa, New Zealand.
