Consultation – Youth Development skill standards

Consultation closes on Tuesday 12th of December 2023

Toitū te Waiora has developed 41 draft skill standards to align to the New Zealand qualifications in Youth Work.

These standards have been developed to ensure that they meet current and future demands and reflect the latest frameworks and research around the diverse and complex nature of youth work practice. This includes the integration of Mana Taiohi and Te Tiriti o Waitangi; the social and digital worlds where rangatahi exist; the known impacts of trauma and family violence; and the growing body of evidence regarding the mental health and wellbeing of taiohi.

These new standards will replace the currently listed Youth Development unit standards and will be mandatory in programmes leading to the Youth Work qualifications.
