New Qualification Approval: New Zealand Diploma in Education Support (Level 5) 

We are pleased to announce that NZQA has approved and listed the New Zealand Diploma in Education Support (Level 5) [Ref: 5249]. 

Developed by Toitū te Waiora, this qualification provides a crucial pathway for those working in or entering Education Support roles. 

Why was this qualification developed? 

This diploma was created in response to sector demand for a formal pathway beyond Level 4. It completes the Education Support qualification suite, which also includes: 

• New Zealand Certificate in Education Support and Care (Level 3) [Ref: 2962] 

• New Zealand Certificate in Education Support (Level 4) [Ref: 2761] 

The Level 5 Diploma is ideal for learners who are: 

• Currently working in the Education Support sector. 

• Looking to advance their career in education.  

• Considering further study, such as a teaching degree. 

How was the qualification developed? 

Toitū te Waiora conducted a needs analysis and stakeholder consultation to ensure this qualification meets industry needs. The draft document was circulated through sector networks for feedback before final approval.

The next review is scheduled for January 2030 to ensure it remains relevant and aligned with industry needs.
