Project Update: Civil Defence Emergency Management

We are pleased to announce that initial industry consultation for the review of standards in this sector has concluded. You are now invited to give feedback on the following proposed skill standards: 

  • CDEM Fundamentals x 6: For people involved in, or preparing to support, Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) efforts at the community, local, or national level. 
  • Response Leadership x 5: For people actively involved in CDEM who have existing leadership experience and require preparation for response leadership. 
  • Treaty Partnership x 3: For people supporting CDEM at community, local, or national levels. 
  • CIMS x 3: Range of audiences including people supporting an Incident Management Team (IMT) or an Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC), or, people working within an IMT or ECC.  

The following skill standards will be available to view for feedback submissions from Friday 6 December: 

  • NZ Response Teams x 6: For people involved in a range of CDEM rescue. Currently used by the NZ Response Teams including ground, heights, flood and storm rescue 
  • Welfare x 6:  Range of audiences including people working in a Civil Defence Centre (CDC) or people involved in needs assessment, animal welfare or supervision of CDC 
  • Recovery x 3: Range of audiences including people working in participating agencies or people supporting the recovery office, surge recovery office workforce and recovery managers 

These skill standards were developed in collaboration with support from across the sector to ensure they’re fit for purpose to meet the needs of Emergency Management learners of the future. To see the proposed changes in full, head to the CDEM project page on our website.
