Proposed review changes to the New Zealand Certificate in Offender Management (Level 3) [Ref: 2658 v2]

Toitū te Waiora has completed its initial public consultation for review of the New Zealand Certificate in Offender Management (Level 3) [Ref: 2658 v2].

In overall terms, the Certificate has been found to be fit for purpose.  The review has highlighted some areas that require reasonably minor amendments.

New Zealand Certificate in Offender Management (Level 3) New Zealand Certificate in Prisoner Management (Level 3) Title needs to change to reflect the Corrections Act 2004. Correct terminology is Prisoner and not Offender.
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the Offender Management sector with frontline staff who have the foundation knowledge, skills, and behaviours to deliver security care and prisoner rehabilitation and reintegration functions in a New Zealand prison environment. Graduates will be able to operate with limited supervision in varying frontline roles such as Corrections Officers, or Corrections Instructors in a New Zealand prison environment.The purpose of this qualification is to provide the Offender Management sector with frontline staff who have the foundation knowledge, skills, and behaviours to deliver safety, security care and prisoner rehabilitation and support reintegration functions in a New Zealand prison environment.
