Proposed skill standards for New Zealand Certificate in Prisoner Management (Level 3) [Ref: 2658v3] March 4th, 2025 Toitū te Waiora has developed six draft skill standards to align with programmes leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Prisoner Management (Level 3) [Ref: 2658 Version 3]. These standards have been developed in consultation with the sector and union to ensure they align with current and future demands while incorporating the latest frameworks and research around prisoner management. The proposed skill standard drafts can be viewed below: 3A Demonstrate use of force responses in a prison environment 3B Apply decision-making and de-escalation techniques in a prison environment 3C Review and assess gang member activity in a prison environment 3D Manage own wellness in a prison environment 3E Demonstrate active engagement in prisoner care and rehabilitation 3F Maintain safety and security in a prison environment These skill standards will be replacing the current unit standards, which are set to expire on 31st December 2027.
